Simply walking around will make the power meter drop like Paris Hilton’s pants at a “Stuff as many beefsticks up your arse at once” party, meaning that you really have no stealth capability at all. If you think you can act like the Predator, capping fools with the jungle with your invisible magic, you’re in line for supreme disappointment. Speed is pointless because you can only sprint for three microseconds before the Nanosuit’s power drains and the boost wears off. You can increase your speed, strength or armor, as well as initiate a stealth mode. Here’s the thing: The Nanosuit is inherently useless. Apparently Crytek felt the enemies needed beefing up to counter the Nanosuit, but the Nanosuit is so crap that, instead, it makes the game needlessly punishing. Not only that, they are also capable of mowing the player down within seconds. The enemies are completely imbalanced, featuring the ability to spot you from miles away and absorb more bullets than Al Pacino at the end of Scarface. Unfortunately, however, Crytek spent its time worrying about “balancing” these powers rather than make them fun, so rather than feel like a superhuman badass, the player instead feels incredibly weak.

All the trappings of the modern shooter are in place - gun turrets, regenerating health, a complete lack of compelling story - but Crysis is made worse by one central problem … its only unique and interesting gimmick is total shit.Ĭrysis’ big difference maker is the Nanosuit, a powerful and sexy bit of kit that grants the player a nifty collection of superhuman powers. You have a variety of standard guns and shoot down generic Korean soldiers. Stranglehold or not, Crysis is a pain in the arseĪt its core, Crysis is a mediocre shooter wearing a lot of expensive makeup. Crysis is a game that demonstrates admirably what happens when you focus on a game’s aesthetics first, and its gameplay a distant, distant second. We mainly do because graphics are the only thing this game has going for it. However, we don’t talk exclusively about graphics because the visuals are so hot. Make no mistake Crysis is one of the most gorgeous games around, a graphical powerhouse that makes PCs quiver with fright at the mere mention of its name. When you say “Crysis” to a gamer, the first thing they’ll think to talk about is the graphics, and with good cause.
